The laptop will try and boot from the CD/DVD drive first, so if you have a CD/DVD installed it may prevent the laptop from booting

Motherboard Blown

The main board on a PC is the  'motherboard', when damaged, the only cause of action is replacement. Many different types exist, this is fairly skilled operation as CPUs have to be seated properly with heat paste and there are many pitfalls.

Faulty Hard Disk Drive

One thing in life is guaranteed 'All hard disks will fail one day' why? Because they use moving parts. A faulty hard disk will stop a laptop from powering up. A tell tale sign is that you can hear a 'ticking' sound when they the laptop tries to boot up. Hard\ drives are fairly easy to change but problems arise when trying to source drivers and other software when the customer does not have their original disks.

Faulty RAM

Faulty RAM will stop a laptop powering up. If you upgrade the RAM on a laptop or use different RAM sticks with different speeds it will affect the running of the computer.

Faulty Keyboard

Typical faults are, one or a number of keys operate but nothing shows on the screen. The whole keyboard needs to be replaced.

Broken Keys

Heavy hands on keyboards or accidental damage can break individual keys resulting them in being missing. Buy a new keyboard they cost very little these days.

Wireless Keyboards and Mice

The largest problem experienced with wireless keyboards and mice is that the batteries are flat, replace them first!

Faulty Mouse

Rollerball type -  covered in hair or dust, uncrew the ball and clean them out, or buy a new one they cost hardly anything, if you do buy a USB optical mouse, they cost a little more but they are far more effective.

Keyboard Wrong Type Set

If your keyboard is displaying the wrong keys on your screen then it has probably been set up wrong. Go to the Control Panel and set it up for English UK.
